Listed companies publish their results every quarter or half-year. In the few weeks when most companies report - earnings season - share prices often move more than usual, because investors compare the results with what they expected.
Expectations matter
A share can fall on good results if they were less good than expected, and rise on weak results that were better than feared. The company's outlook for the coming period often matters more than the last quarter.
Where the numbers come from
Ticker Picker's financial data comes from the companies' official filings (for US companies, SEC EDGAR). New reports appear in the stock pages shortly after they are filed.
