A stock screener filters a large list of listed companies down to the ones that match criteria you choose - for example revenue growth above 10 %, a dividend yield between 2 % and 7 %, or a P/E ratio below 20. It saves time by showing where to start looking; it does not tell you what to buy.
A simple way to start
Begin with a ready-made profile (growth, steady dividend, or high potential with high risk) and look at which companies appear and why. Then change one filter at a time and watch how the list changes. That teaches you more about what the numbers mean than setting ten filters at once.
Read the numbers in context
A single number rarely tells the full story. A very high dividend yield can mean the share price has fallen sharply; a very low P/E can mean earnings were boosted by a one-off gain. Ticker Picker marks unusually extreme values with a flag so you know to look closer.
From list to research
When a company looks interesting, open its stock page: read what the business does, look at several years of revenue, earnings and cash flow, check its debt, and read recent news. The screener is the first step of the research, never the last.
